About

Profile2014I work in philosophy of psychology, mind, and metaphysics. My research centers on human rationality and the nature of doxastic attitudes (namely belief, acceptance, and faith). My dissertation is a criticism of dual-process theories of reasoning on both empirical and conceptual grounds. I argue that there is just one reasoning system that operates in several different modes. My dissertation is interdisciplinary, and I see my role as a philosopher as both clarifying a dialectic in psychology and (far from being a mere handmaid to the sciences) constructing a theory of human reasoning using psychological data. My future research will focus on the relationship between belief, acceptance, and faith, and the evolution of human rationality and its implications for the cognitive science of religion.
